Dr. Kazi A. S. M. Nurul Huda, the 2025–26 Zuzana Simoniova Cmelikova Visiting International Scholar in Leadership and Ethics, researches the ethics of open-mindedness in political leadership in polarized societies.
A native of Bangladesh, he is an associate professor of philosophy at the University of Dhaka. His research spans epistemology, political philosophy, and ethics, as well as applied areas including business ethics, environmental philosophy, development ethics, bioethics, and philosophy of education. His work has appeared in journals such as Developing World Bioethics; Business Ethics, the Environment, and Responsibility; Cultural Dynamics; International Journal of Applied Philosophy; Symposion; and Philosophy and Progress.
In addition to his academic work, Huda writes regularly for national and international media. His commentaries have been published in South Asia @ LSE, the Diplomat, the Daily Star, E-International Relations, New Age, the Business Standard, Countercurrents, and Daily Samakal. In Bangladesh, he is a frequent commentator on democratic reform, civic values, and leadership ethics.
Huda earned his master's and doctorate in philosophy from the University of Oklahoma and a bachelor's (honors) and master's in philosophy from the University of Dhaka. At the Jepson School of Leadership Studies and the University of Richmond, he contributes a global philosophical perspective and a particular interest in the ethical challenges of leadership in divided societies, with a strong commitment to dialogue across disciplines and with the public.
