Lina Tori Jan
Lina Tori Jan is a policy officer at the Georgetown Institute for Women, Peace and Security and a social entrepreneur, public speaker, and advocate for equality and human rights. She focuses specifically on the rights of women, girls, and refugees. Shaped by her experiences growing up in her native Afghanistan, she oversees the implementation of Georgetown University’s Afghanistan initiative, Onward for Afghan Women. In this role, she elevates and supports Afghan women leaders in their advocacy on behalf of Afghan women and girls.
Tori Jan works around the globe to assist companies, NGOs, and governments in their efforts to create more just societies. As a UNICEF Education Champion, she has addressed audiences across North America, Europe, and Oceania. She serves on the board of RefugePoint, an international NGO that supports refugees in more than 30 countries, and lends her expertise in values-based leadership as an advisor to the Oxford Character Project.
Tori Jan graduated from the University of Richmond in 2020 with a B.A. in leadership studies and political science. She attended graduate school as a Jepson Scholar at the University of Oxford, where she earned a master’s degree in public policy. Her work has been featured on NBC’s The Today Show, BBC, ABC, CBS, NPR, and in the Washington Post.
