July 2008
Thanks to Billy O'Brien,
'01, Associate Dean Teresa Williams was able to go a few
places she hadn't been before on her most recent trip to the
nation's capital.
O'Brien, a director on the
Homeland Security Council, arranged a behind-the-scenes tour of the
White House for Williams that included the Oval Office, the James S.
Brady Press Briefing Room, the Cabinet Room and the Red Room.
"It was fascinating to
actually walk in the space where negotiations about the economy,
about bills and about the future of our country take place,"
Williams said. "It's a little humbling."
Williams was in town to meet
and have lunch with two Jepson students who are currently doing
their internships at the White House.
The tour took about 90
minutes and included an
unscheduled break.
"There was a moment where
the First Lady was outside walking the dog, so we had to wait
inside," Williams said.
O'Brien also proved to be a
good tour guide.
"He was great," Williams
said. "Every time somebody had a question about something he was
able to explain why things were so."
