Joshua Walker, ’03, recently published an article in
the winter issue of The Washington Quarterly on U.S.-Turkish
relations. The article was titled, “Reexamining the U.S.-Turkish
Alliance.”
“Although the United States and Turkey have had serious policy
disagreements in the past, there has always been an overarching
strategic vision to keep the alliance intact,” Walker writes. “Now,
with the absence of a common threat from the Soviet Union and with
new civilian-military dynamics in Turkey, the future of the
U.S.-Turkish alliance needs to be carefully reexamined.”
After graduating from the University of Richmond in 2003, Walker
entered Yale as a Javits fellow in fall 2004 to pursue a master’s
degree in international relations. He is currently a graduate fellow
and Ph.D. candidate in politics and public policy at Princeton
University. He has worked at the Turkey desk at the Department of
State and has previously been published in several journals and
newspapers.
