Grant Extension to Make Summer Institute, New Courses Possible

The W. M. Keck Foundation recently agreed to extend a three-year grant to the Jepson School that will allow Jepson to hold a Leadership and the Liberal Arts Summer Institute on campus May 19-21. The grant, which will now expire at the end of 2008, will fund two new interdisciplinary, co-taught courses that will be offered in the fall: Women and Leadership and Civil War Leadership.

Faculty members Crystal Hoyt and Liz Faier will teach Women and Leadership. Al Goethals and retired Gen. John Mountcastle will teach Civil War Leadership.

The purpose of the grant and the Leadership and the Liberal Arts Initiative is to encourage colleges to integrate topics of responsible leadership across liberal arts disciplines. The grant also provides support for stipends for select students to pursue a research project stemming from Keck courses.
