Police Ride-Along Appointment Request

REGISTRATION FOR RIDE-ALONG APPOINTMENTS IS NOW OPEN.  Appointment Requests are due NO LATER than Wednesday, February 5, 2020 12:00 noon

Some professors require that students complete four hours of social observation as part of the community-based learning component of LDST 210, Justice and Civil Society. Social observation typically consists of a four hour police ride-along in one of four precincts in the Richmond Police Department. The police department requires that ride-along participants be U.S. citizens and be at least 18 years of age. Students who do not meet these requirements should contact the Jepson School associate dean for student and external affairs, Dr. Kerstin Soderlund, to arrange for an alternative.

Before requesting an appointment, students must have completed and submitted a police ride-along application to the Jepson School associate dean for student and external affairs, Dr. Kerstin Soderlund. Appointments are scheduled on a first come, first served basis; only one student may be scheduled at each precinct for any given date.

To request a police ride-along appointment, students must fill out and submit the online form below. Students must arrange their own transportation to and from the precinct and should plan on arriving 15 minutes prior to the shift start time. Ride-along appointments CANNOT be rescheduled so please consult your calendar carefully before submitting your request.
