From the Dean

Dean Sandra J. PeartAs we look forward to the busy season of Commencement-related events, I am grateful for our many alumni and friends whose support and enthusiasm are so important to our School. In this newsletter you will see much evidence of their continued engagement with our students at the EDGE Institute.

This season is always bittersweet; Senior Banquet, our expanding Research Symposium, Finale, and Commencement will soon be upon us. We will say our farewells to the Class of 2016, confident that our soon-to-be graduates will move on to new and important challenges, ready to lead ethically, with purpose.

Sincerely,

Sandra J. Peart
Dean, Jepson School of Leadership Studies

2nd Annual Spring School Challenge

From April 1–20, the Jepson School is competing to defend its title in the 2nd annual Spring School Challenge. If we win, we’ll celebrate faculty and alumni, who make the student experience possible, and treat students to an ice cream party on the last day of classes!

Donate today to show your appreciation for your Jepson education, and keep reading to learn more about our plans to enhance our study of the field of ethics!

Fourth Annual Jepson EDGE Institute

On February 14, a record 39 Jepson alumni returned to campus for the 4th annual Jepson EDGE Institute. In addition to leading workshops on interviewing, lessons learned, and workplace etiquette, alumni discussed the purposes of an elevator pitch, shared their pitches with students, and helped students craft their own elevator pitches. Following the workshops, students, alumni, and faculty attended a networking reception.

Looking Ahead: A Focus on Ethics

2015-16 Ethics Bowl Team

Developing the ability to identify and respond to ethical problems and cultivating a sense of justice and concern for others should be part of all students’ educations. That’s why critical thinking and ethical reasoning have always been at the heart of the Jepson School’s curriculum. As we approach the School’s 25th anniversary, we want to strengthen and expand our dedication to the field of ethics.

As a member of the Jepson family, you already know that we have outstanding faculty members dedicated to the study of ethics. Our students participate in extracurricular activities like Ethics Bowl, where they have advanced to the APPE Intercollegiate Ethics Bowl National Championship for the past three years. In January, we launched the Science Leadership Scholars Program for students pursuing careers in the sciences to explore ethical reasoning, and in March, we hosted students from Moscow University School of Business to learn about leadership and business ethics.

We’re proud that our program is dedicated to preparing students to be ethical leaders, and we look forward to creating even more unparalleled learning opportunities in the field of ethics.

Make a gift to the School during this year's Spring School Challenge to help us prepare Jepson students to take on the ethical challenges of the future, and stay tuned for more updates!
