November 13, 2006

The Jepson School of Leadership Studies honored former dean Kenneth P. Ruscio with a portrait unveiling and program on the challenges of college presidential leadership. Ruscio was inaugurated as president of Washington & Lee University this fall.

“Organized Anarchy: Challenges of Leading Academic Communities” featured speakers who have held key positions at the University of Richmond and later served as college presidents. Chancellor Richard Morrill, who is writing a book about leadership in higher education, moderated the discussion. In addition to Ruscio, discussants were:

  • Charles Glassick, who served as president at Gettysburg College and as an interim president at three institutions of higher learning and was provost at UR;
  • Thomas Morris, Secretary of Education of the Commonwealth, former president of Emory and Henry College and a former professor of political science at the university;
  • John Roush, president of Centre College who served as executive assistant to the president of UR.
