Prolific Faculty Contribute to Major Reference Works
June 10, 2004
Jepson scholars are lead editors and writers
in two ambitious book projects that advance
access to information and knowledge about
leadership studies.
The Encyclopedia of Leadership, a
four-volume reference work on leadership,
appeared in bookstores nationwide this
spring. Also soon off the press is a
three-volume leadership anthology by Tom
Wren, Douglas Hicks and Terry Price. The
anthology, The International Library of
Leadership, assembles the most
significant writings and scholarship on
leadership. Volume titles are Traditional
Classics on Leadership, Modern Classics on
Leadership and New Perspectives on
Leadership.
For the encyclopedia,
Jepson scholars wrote many articles and
served in key roles on the project team at
every stage. James MacGregor Burns and
Georgia Sorenson, visiting scholars at
Jepson, edited the books. Contributors were
Professors Joanne B. Ciulla, Gill Robinson
Hickman, Fredric Jablin, Dean Kenneth P.
Ruscio, Associate Professors Hicks and
Price. Associate Professor Wren advised on
the project during the early stages.
According to the publisher, The
Encyclopedia of Leadership is "a
comprehensive guide to what is known--and
what truly matters--about leadership as part
of the human experience across time and
cultures, and in the lives of those in
positions of leadership in corporations and
state houses, schools and churches, and
nonprofit organizations."
The encyclopedia brings together the range
of work being done by scholars, business
professionals, and educators in the area of
leadership studies. The publisher generously
credited the Jepson faculty for its many
contributions.
