The Robotics Revolution
Feb. 28, 7 p.m., Jepson Alumni Center
James McLurkin
MIT whiz kid considered one of the nation’s top inventors
Leadership requires understanding change and the potential for technology to transform our world. Robotics today touches many professions, industries and human endeavors--from the battlefield to the operating room, from assembly lines to smart roads. In high school, James McLurkin built a robot that combined a toy car and a squirt gun.
Its purpose: to drench his friends. Today, this Massachusetts Institute of Technology doctoral candidate builds robots to perform social behavior like ants. His Swarm Project has robots performing individual tasks with a central goal. Featured in Time magazine as one of the nation’s top robotics engineers, McLurkin brings to campus up-to-the-minute knowledge of his field. He’s a young inventor in the vanguard of new technology.
This program is also sponsored by the Greater Richmond Alumni
Chapter and the Science Museum of Virginia. Through this
partnership, the University of Richmond’s Office of Alumni Relations
will have a limited number of special invitations or tickets to
museum events.
