Jepson Inducts New Majors, Holds Speed Networking Event

During Prelude 2007, Jepson inducted 58 new students into the School. The School also held a speed networking event beforehand that gave students an opportunity to connect with alumni.

Grant Extension to Make Summer Institute, New Courses Possible

Two new courses, Women and Leadership and Civil War Leadership, will be taught next fall thanks to a three-year grant extension the School received. Jepson will also hold a Leadership and the Liberal Arts Summer Institute on campus May 19-21.

New Jepson Book Series Debuts

The Values of Presidential Leadership, edited by Terry L. Price and J. Thomas Wren, was published in the fall. In this inaugural book in a new series, presidential scholars from the fields of communications, history, law, philosophy, political science and psychology explore the broader phenomenon of leadership.

McDowell Publishes Lead Op-Ed for the Wall Street Journal on "The War For the Constitution"

Gary L.
McDowell's guest column for The Wall Street Journal looks back 20 years on Robert Bork's confirmation hearings for a seat on the Supreme Court of the United States. Article.

Peart Organizes Symposium on Ethics and Economics

Dean Sandra J. Peart and David M. Levy, a professor of economics at George Mason University, compiled a three-article symposium on ethics and economics for the Winter 2008 edition of the Eastern Economic Journal. The symposium explores the nature of ethics and ethical constraints within economics and challenges the notion that those who study human choice are somehow different from those whose choices they study.

Students Receive Rave Reviews From Top Companies

As part of Charles Metzgar's Leadership in Organizations class in the fall, students had the opportunity to extern with Capital One Services, Inc., Play and Mercer Human Resources Consulting to better understand leadership and develop leadership skills in the context of organizations. The experience paid off — for both the students and the companies.

Senior Portrait: Jason Levinn's Role as an Environmental Leader

Jason Levinn didn't know what he was passionate about. Then, the summer before his junior year, he saw An Inconvenient Truth. Now the founder of RENEW (the Richmond Environmental Network for Economic Willpower) reflects on what it took to start RENEW, what he learned about leadership in the process and where he wants to go from here.

After graduating, Joshua Walker spent a year studying and traveling in Turkey on a Fulbright scholarship. He is currently a graduate fellow and Ph.D. candidate in politics and public policy at Princeton University.

Since graduating in 2005, Kimberly Bowers has gotten plenty of opportunities to stretch her legs in politics. Bowers has worked as a fundraiser in northern Virginia and on a gubernatorial campaign in Maryland.  But in 2007, she got an offer she couldn't refuse.

CDC Job Takes Sara Zeigler, 97, to Remote Corners of the World

Sara Zeigler isn’t afraid of a challenge — or of an adventure. So when her job with the Centers for Disease Control took her to Barrow, Alaska, during December a few years ago when the temperature was 60 below and sunlight nonexistent, she was a little surprised that she wasn’t allowed to walk anywhere by herself.

White House Insider Billy O'Brien, '01, Makes Homeland Security a Priority

From working as a personal aide for Vice President Dick Cheney to his current job as a director on the president's Homeland Security Council, Billy O'Brien knows his way around the White House. Although he routinely works 14-hour days in his current job, O'Brien say he relishes the opportunity to serve by working in the government.
