Science Museum Chief Named Leader-in-Residence
for 2006-07 Academic Year

Walter R. T. Witschey, director of
the Science Museum of Virginia, will serve as the
leader-in-residence for the 2006-07 academic year at the
Jepson School of Leadership Studies at the University of
Richmond. The Science Museum is one of the
Commonwealth's most-visited museums and has a broad
mission to educate citizens about science.
This year, the School has formed a partnership with the
Science Museum of Virginia to promote and stage several
programs and events tied to the Jepson
Leadership Forum theme Science, Society and
Leadership.
Witschey has served as director of
the Science Museum of Virginia since 1992. Previously,
he served as president of both the Virginia Academy of
Science and the
Association of Science-Technology Centers.
He holds a bachelor's degree in physics from
Princeton University, a M.B.A. from the University of
Virginia, and master's and doctoral degrees from Tulane
University, where he studied archaeology.
The leader-in-residence interacts
with Jepson students and faculty in formal and informal
ways. The leader-in-residence program has invited local,
state and national leaders to interact with students in
formal and informal settings since the school’s founding
