Alumni Updates 2006 - 2008

Jepson alumni want to stay in touch with each other and the School's faculty and administrators want to know about graduates' further study, professional lives and volunteer and community service endeavors. Class of 2006

Kevin Brown works in Philadelphia, where he is director of business development for Neo Energy Solutions, Inc. (Sept. 08)

Cristin Kane is pursuing a master's degree in public policy analysis at American University in Washington. (Aug 08)

Elleni Ghebremicael recently completed a two-year commitment with Teach For America. She taught sixth grade language arts and history in addition to serving as  basketball coach, high school admissions counselor and chair of the UPS Behavior Management Team in five schools in Cherry Hill, NJ. This fall she will attend graduate school at American University, where she will pursue a master's degree in International Peace and Conflict Resolution. She is also a member of the board of directors at Americans for Informed Democracy. (July 08)

Brittany Brown is currently enrolled in Virginia Commonwealth University's Brandcenter,  where she is a Mass Communications master's candidate with an emphasis on strategic planning. She expects to graducate in 2009 and Brittancy was recently awarded a summer internship at The Martin Agency's Richmond office. (June 08)

Katherine F. Connelly is working as a center manager for RuffaloCODY, a fundraising consulting company at Providence College in Rhode Island. Her staff of student callers recently raised more than $1.2 million pledged dollars for PC's annual gift campaign. (June 08)

Heather Harsh is the staff accountant for SnagAJob.com in Glen Allen, Virginia. (June 08)

Kristine Lohse is currently living in London where she is pursuing a master's degree in  primary education from the University of London. She teaches part-time at the American School. (June 08)

Brian Neidig works for CapAnalysis as a consultant. He recently spent three months in the company's office in Brussels and in the fall he expects to enter the MBA program at  UCLA. (June 08)

Courtney McRae is a rising 3L at Howard University School of Law in Plainfield, NJ. She expects to graduate in 2009. (June 08)

Ashley Pyle will enter her final year of law school at the University of Maryland School of Law this fall. She is the executive notes editor at the Maryland Journal of International Law and is a member of the Negotiation Team. She has also served as class representative for the Honor Board each year. She is pursuing a career in communications law and is an intern at the Federal Communications Commission. (June 08)

William J. Van Thunen is a global capital markets mergers & acquisitions specialist for Hunton & Williams LLP in New York City. (June 08)

Meredith Clarke works in project support at Shepley Bulfinch Richardson and Abbot, an architectural and design firm in Boston. She is working on a master’s degree in interior design at Boston Architectural College. (Jan. 08)

Whitney McComis is wrapping up her two-year commitment to Teach for America in May. Whitney has spent the last two years teaching writing to 7th graders at Fonville Middle School in Houston.  She will enter Stanford University’s Policy, Organization and Leadership Studies master’s program in the fall. (April 08)

T.R. Straub is completing his second year as a Teach For America corps member in Baltimore, where he has taught 9th grade U.S. History, 10th grade U.S. Government, and 11th & 12th grade World History courses. Additionally, at his school, he is the co-chair of his School Improvement Team and the advisor of the Student Government Association. Last summer, he assisted with the training of incoming corps members as a School Operations Manager at the TFA Philadelphia Institute. This year he is a recruitment director for Teach For America, working with undergraduate campuses in the Baltimore-Philadelphia corridor. (Jan. 08)  

Class of 2007

Sara McGanity lives in Arlington, VA, where she is a business analyst for CLC Solutions, the consulting group at Corporate Executive Board. (Sept. 08)

Mallory Winter is working at DOVE (DOmestic Violence Ended), Inc. a domestic violence agency in Somerville, Mass. She is the volunteer coordinator, executive assistant and supervisor at their emergency shelter. She plans pursue a master's degree in social work at Wheelock College in the fall. (July 08)

Sarah E. Fitzpatrick lives and works in New York City, where she is in public relations at Weber Shandwick (part of the Interpublic Group of Companies). She works in business development and is responsible for pitching and responding to requests for proposals. (June 08)

Oluwatorera  Akinola lives in New York City where she is a special education teacher for the city's department of education. In addition to teaching mentally disabled students and children with autism she is pursuing a master's degree in middle childhood education. (June 08)

Kathryn (Katie) Connolly Bell lives in Richmond where she is a fundraiser and event planner for the American Cancer Society. She married Andrew Bell in May 2008 in Florida. (June 08)

Kristen Berlacher lives in the Chicago area where she is communication and development manager of Working In The Schools, a literacy nonprofit that provides one-on-one tutoring programs for public school students. She participates in board management and development, event planning and fundraising management, donor relations, marketing, rebranding, website management, PR and communications, and database management.

Rebecca Condon spent last fall teaching HIV Prevention in Tanzania. She is currently pursuing a master's of public health degree at Boston University and doing consulting work for an education-based non-profit. She lives in Cambridge and expects to travel to Belize in January to work with the Ministry of Health on adapting a nutrition surveillance system to prevent neural tube defects. (June 08)

Kristy M. Hartman is a research associate in the Consumer Discretionary Sector at Davenport and Co. in Richmond. She recently passed the Series 7 exam which qualifies her to become a corporate trader. (June 08)

Jessica Scrimale works at Spencer Stuart, a global executive search company, in New York City, where she is a research analyst in the Education and Non-Profit practice. She helps colleges and universities in their searches for  provost, dean, and presidential positions. (June 08)

Adrienne Supino teaches English in Thailand and plans to return to the United States in the fall, when she hopes to work in the international education sector. This past year, she taught English to hundreds of pre-teens and teenagers in northern Thailand. (June 08)

Danielle Torain is director of policy, programming and evaluation at the Center for Urban Families in Baltimore. In this position, she oversees the organization's grants and contracts management; legislative policy research and advocacy; program planning and evaluation. She also serves as the senior technical specialist for the Promoting Responsible Fatherhood Technical Assistance - a federally based program which operates out of the Office of Family Assistance. She is also a part-time law student in her third year at the University of Maryland School of Law. (June 08)

Xavier Belcher is studying medicine at Virginia Commonwealth University. Interview (Feb. 08)

Mark Hickman is a paralegal at Hunton & Williams LLP in Richmond. He is a member of the Richmond Paralegal Association and is also a Notary Public. Mark is a member of the Jepson Alumni Networking Committee and the UR Young Grad Council, where he sits on the Professional and Personal Development Committee. (Jan. 08)  

Corrine Nunez is an analyst at Analytics Corporation in Richmond. She performs chemical and biological examinations of water samples according to U.S. Environmental Protection Agency standards. (Jan. 08)  

David Roberts is studying law at the University of Virginia. (Jan. 08)

Stefanie Simon is in a fellowship at the Center for Public Leadership at Harvard University's John F. Kennedy School of Government. She is studying prejudice and plans to become a social psychologist. She returned to campus in December, 2007, to visit with Jepson assistant professor Crystal Hoyt and attend the Jepson Leadership Forum featuring renowned social psychologist and gender research pioneer Alice Eagly. Tara Sulzen is living in Portland and working as a political organizer with the Oregon Bus Project. After completing her summer PolitiCorps fellowship, a selective leadership development and public affairs intensive training for college students and recent graduates, Tara was asked to stay with the Bus Project to help build fundraising capacity and plan major events for the organization. She recently worked to plan the curriculum and event logistics for the Rebooting Democracy Conference, to engage young people in political volunteerism and social movements in Oregon. (Jan. 08)

Class of 2007

Sara Rossi works in New York City for Jaeger-LeCoultre, a French luxury watch company, as their Northeastern territory brand trainer. (Sept. 08)
